Face-claims and their impact on self-image
Face-claims have always been a major thing in the shifting community. It is utilized in many scripts and/or content that a lot of creators make. However, something that isn’t talked about a lot is how they can reflect someone’s self-image.
Now, this isn’t to say that using a face-claim is inherently bad or good, but to acknowledge that it does effect one’s self-image. However, it’s not undeniable that face-claims can be used to “fit in” to your DR. Simply put, not everyone perceives their DR-selves as how they physically look in this reality—and that’s completely okay. However, using a face-claim and successfully shifting to a place where you look completely different can affect your mental health.
One of the many reasons why I say this is because there will be an obvious change when shifting to and from your DR. Suddenly going somewhere, looking different, and coming back to the you that you’ve always known. Scripting in features of yourself that you desire and coming back to not having those features can increase insecurities or develop new ones. In other words, body dysmorphia.
Because this is a sensitive topic it’s understandable as to why it’s not talked about within the shifting community. However, I personally believe that talking about this can be healthy and lead to great conversations about face-claims in general and developing healthy shifting habits.
To reiterate, this specific newsletter has nothing against people that use face-claims! This is written mainly for the purpose to talk about the fact that having face-claims can have cons to them.
Face-claims should be used carefully and mindfully. You can always ask yourself as to whether you think that you need a face-claim, or would want to look different and re-evaluate from there!
Thank you again for reading this newsletter, and we will be out with another one soon!
